Guide Review - Erika Jo - Erika Jo
During the Nashville Star season I cheered for Jason Meadows & wanted him to win, but after I heard Erika Jo's single "I Break Things" I decided to give her a chance. Her mega talent shows on her self-titled debut. Erika Jo is a spunky youngster yet she seems like an old professional when it comes to making a song her own.Erika Jo's upbeat & spunky first single "I Break Things" opens the album. She warns a guy wanting to be her boyfriend that she's been "an accident waiting to happen" from the time she was a little girl & he better hold onto his heart because she might break it at some point in time. "Who You Are" has a wonderful message - find out who you really are & what you want to be so if you have dreams you can follow them. "Your life belongs just to you & nobody else." Erika's voice sounds exceptionally pretty on "There Are No Accidents," a wonderful slow song written by Tony Martin, Tom Shapiro & Mark Nesler. "Go" is another song about leaving a safe place to chase your dreams.
Erika Jo can really sing not only the spunky songs but the slow emotional ones too & a perfect example is the song "They Say Love is Blind." She sings about trying to avoid her ex but next thing she knows there he is at a bookstore with his current girlfriend. Hiding behind her coffee cup she just wishes he would leave without seeing her. The last song on Erika's debut album is "I'm Not Lisa," which is a cover of the song originally performed & written by Jessi Colter.
