Guide Review - Cross Canadian Ragweed - Garage
I've been listening to Cross Canadian Ragweed since their Highway 377 days, and enjoying every new album more and more. With Garage, I think the boys have taken that last crucial step toward becoming a truly superior Americana-rock band - a truly great band, period. Cody Canada's lyrics are superb, the band plays tight, and the singing is excellent. There's nothing to complain about here and everything to cheer. I'm not going to hesitate - this disc made me think of the Rolling Stones at their prime. It's raw, it's gritty, it's sharp, it's smart, and it tidily spans the space between rock and country with as much style and skill as the Stones ever did. Most of the songs are originals, with a slick cover of Todd Snider's "Late Last Night" and rock classic "Who Do You Love?" thrown in the mix, and an impressive version of Scott Copeland's "Lighthouse Keeper." The rest of the songs have the CCR stamp on them, with Cody Canada writing or co-writing every one of them.
It's great to hear this kind of music, done on their own terms, getting out there and being heard. After ten years of touring and winning over fans everywhere, these guys have achieved awesome. They rock Texas-style, a little country in a lot of rock, and it's good. "Garage" will be released on both CD and vinyl, as well as in a limited edition (black cover) with bonus DVD featuring the group's music videos, including one never broadcast, and a slide show of band photos chronicling their ten years on the road.
