Guide Review - 'My Very Special Guests: Legacy Edition' - George Jones & Friends
This Epic/Legacy release is a welcome find for any country music fan. George Jones is a true living legend and over the decades he has been in the business, he's sang with just about everyone. This collection of duets is a wide-ranging sample of a few he has done. There are 18 tracks on the first CD. James Taylor joins George for "Bartender's Blues." Tammy Wynette helps with "It Sure Was Good." Johnny Paycheck and George sing "Proud Mary," "A Few Ole Country Boys" is sung with Randy Travis and Janie Fricke and George have a great time with "All I Want To Do In Life." One of my favorites on this album was the duet with Patty Loveless, "You Don't Seem To Miss Me." And B.B. King helps George sing "Patches," a real tear jerker, to close out that CD.
The 19 track second CD was just as star studded as the first. This is probably my favorite of the two, although I love them both. Alan Jackson joins George for "A Good Year For the Roses," Merle helps with "Yesterday's Wine," George helps Johnny Cash sing "I got Stripes" and Loretta Lynn joins him for "We Sure Make Good Love." Ray Charles and George say "I didn't See A Thing," Buck Owens and George do "Love's Gonna Live Here" and Sweethearts of the Rodeo help George close the second CD with "Traveller's Prayer." Bottom line is that this is an excellent album to add to any collection and will provide a couple of hours of great entertainment.
