Guide Review - Charlie Robison - Good Times
Having "Good Times" is something Charlie certainly knows how to do so what better way to open up an album than to have a track with that title. Do whatever you have to in order to get out and have some fun with your friends. A guy's "New Year's Day" was pretty rough down on the border until he met some cowboys who liked to do anything imaginable. Dixie Chick Natalie Maines sings background vocals on "El Cerrito Place." I've always loved hearing the two sing together and it would be neat if they could do a duet album.
"Love Means Never Having to Say You're Hungry" has innuendo all over the place, in pure Charlie Robison style, while "Something in the Water" also has a little bit of humor in the lyrics too. "Photograph" is a personal song about Charlie's family many years ago that evolves into recent times and his son, Gus. "Though you won't remember it will still make you laugh when you see us together in a photograph."
One of the songs rounding out the album is Charlie's version of the Terry Allen penned "Flatland Boogie." Last track, "Magnolia," is a great story song that paints a vivid image in your mind as you listen to its descriptive lyrics.
