Guide Review - Loretta Lynn - All Time Greatest Hits
All through her career, Loretta Lynn's style never changed. Her delivery remained direct, honest and heartfelt. Never losing that down home sound "Don't Come Home A Drinkin'," "You Ain't Woman Enough," "Wine Women And Song" and "Fist City" are sung with great passion and attitude, you can't help but wonder about the stories that inspired the writing.Exposing Loretta's story to the world, "Coal Miner's Daughter" came along. It spoke of just how hard life was back in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky. The passion with which she sings this song, makes me believe she wouldn't have had it any other way. It made her more prepared for the heartbreaks she would later endure.
One such heartbreak happened in 1963 with the shocking death of Loretta's legendary friend, Patsy Cline. Paying tribute, Loretta recorded a heartbreaking version of Patsy's "She's Got You." Another would come in 1993 with the unexpected death of Loretta's duet partner, Conway Twitty. The harmonious duo racked up hit after hit. They sang of heartbreak in "After The Fire Is Gone," "As Soon As I Hang Up The Phone," and "Lead Me On."
During a long legal battle over publishing rights, Loretta stopped recording her own material and released among others "Trouble in Paradise," "When The Tingle Becomes A Chill," "Love Is The Foundation," and "Somebody Somewhere." Although these were big hits for her and great lyrics beautifully put to music, I can't help but feel something missing only when compared to Loretta's own writings.
