Guide Review - Shelby Lynne Suit Yourself
Leading off the record is the fun "Go With It." It presents, to the audience, what it must've been like to be in the studio making this record. The song also has a classic pop sound to it. "Where Am I Now" has a confessional acoustic country/folk sound to it that is just gorgeous and raw. Despite its title, "I Won't Die Alone" has a cheerful melody. "Johnny Met June" is a introspective track about the true love Johnny Cash had for June Carter Cash and how he felt after she passed away. It's a poignant tribute. "You Don't Have A Heart" is a wonderful, radio-ready track that should be the sign to the pop/rock world that Shelby deserved her Grammy award. The CD ends with the aptly titled "Track 12." It's a cover of an old Tony Joe White song called "Rainy Night In Georgia."This is a confident, assured release from Shelby Lynne. It's not overproduced at all (as many albums are these days) and as such it's the perfect album to showcase her eclectic genre-bending ability.
