Shannon Brown - Corn Fed

Warner Brothers Nashville

The Bottom Line

'Corn Fed' is the perfect album to showcase the immense amount of talent Shannon has. She can tackle the fun songs like "Big Man" with just enough attitude, then capture the soulful emotion in songs like "Why" and "Small Town Girl." She had the talent back in 1998 and she has even more of it now - she just needs radio to take a chance on her.
Pros
  • "Corn Fed"
  • "I Love 'Em All"
  • "Pearls"
Cons
  • None.

Description

  • Produced by John Rich.
  • Twelve songs with a variety of topics.
  • Good sequencing of songs.

Guide Review - Shannon Brown - Corn Fed

The last I heard from Shannon was 1998's "I Won't Lie." I thought she had an amazing voice then & now that she's back I think her voice is better than ever. Producer John Rich seems to have really fed off Shannon's energy & worked hard to make an album with her that she can be proud of. She has a modern country sound with a little bit of flavor, & her voice is amazing. There's not a bad song on the album.

Right out of the gates the title track, "Corn Fed," sets the tone for the album. She's proud of where she came from & you should never expect her to apologize for who she has become. Don't underestimate a woman because it can take a really "Big Man" to love a little bundle of dynamite. "High Horses" is about breaking all the musical roles & not being stuck on what is country & what isn't. "Good Ole Days" is a mix of disco with a little bit of groove.

A fun song is "I Love 'Em All," about a woman who will date any kind of man as long as they'll treat her right. She particularly enjoys the cowboys working the Wrangler butts. "Why" is a great song performed by Jason Aldean but Shannon really adds something extra to the lyrics. "Pearls," the disc's second single, isn't about a necklace, but rather the words of advice handed down from mother to daughter throughout the years. "Small Town Girl," written by Shannon, is almost autobiographical for her & it closes the album. I love the line: "Now I won't run from the past that's given me wings."
