Guide Review - George Jones - Essential George Jones
The Essential collections are wonderful for artists who are well established and much of their music is out of print or no longer found easily. George Jones started his career in the early 50s and is still going strong today. This album is all re-mastered original recordings. It starts with his very first single, No Money in the Deal. In that song, hes still finding his musical legs and his voice has a rougher edge that comes with youth and inexperience. A few years later he found his stride with the hit that put him on the charts, Why Baby Why. That was in 1955 and he hit the ground running and never looked back. His voice is unique, and though people have tried, there isnt anyone that can sing like George.Over the years he has sung with almost everyone. While Tammy Wynette is the most recognized duet partner, he also had a few hits with Melba Montgomery first. No collection would be complete without including at least one of those songs, and We Must Have Been Out of Our Minds is a beautiful one. There are a couple of duets with Tammy on here, Take Me and We Loved It Away. There are so many good songs, it is impossible to mention them all. But The Race is On, White Lightning, Grand Tour, He Stopped Loving Her Today and A Picture of Me Without You are all included. There are several songs that are maybe not as well known, but that makes them all the better for this project. It closes with the last charted single to date, Choices.
