Guide Review - Brooks & Dunn - Hillbilly Deluxe
Brooks & Dunn have become icons in country music. They have consistently put out chart hits and solid albums over the last couple of decades. They can be a contradiction in terms, yet they have blended their styles into one of the most successful acts in country music history. Ronnie Dunn is the quiet one, with a laid back and easy style. Kix Brooks is high-energy and happy to be out in the forefront of things. But their personalities just click and together they are unstoppable. They have some fast paced music like "Play Something Country." It is a rousing song that Kix does so well with. It stars a country girl who likes a good time. She likes whiskey, chases cowboys, listens to country and has a good time. "Whiskey Do My Talkin'" is a song that says he is more at ease with the opposite sex if he has a drink or two first. They have included several songs that are a little slower and more thought provoking. The album seems to be dedicated overall to the music that defines the honky tonk sound. I enjoyed the blend of songs and the easy way Kix and Ronnie trade off on their vocals. It all comes together to form an excellent album.
