Guide Review - John Denver - Love Songs
Back on October 12, 1997 singer, songwriter, and actor John Denver was killed when he crashed the Long-EZ aircraft he was piloting after it ran out of fuel just off the coast at Pacific Grove, CA. It was a tragedy that shocked the entertainment world. John Denver may be gone, but he still lives on in the music he left behind to be enjoyed by generations yet to come. His latest CD is part of a series from Legacy Records entitled Love Songs. After I spent some time in the mountains of Montana, the music of John Denver takes on a special meaning to me. You can feel the morning sunshine on your face and feel the mountain breeze on your skin in the words that he sings. This CD takes a look at the softer side of John Denver's music. With songs that range from 1969's "Leavin' On A Jet Plane" to 1995's "A Song For All Lovers." The latter is one of two live tracks on the CD from 1995. The other is "Dreamland Express." Other tracks on this CD worth mentioning are, "Annie's Song," "My Sweet Lady" and "Poems, Prayers And Promises."
Note that this is *not* another greatest hits CD. In fact, several of these songs may be unfamiliar to you. But if you are a true fan of John Denver, you will enjoy this collection. The liner notes say the following. "The honest and beautiful simplicity of John Denver's timeless song craft has touched the hearts of millions of fans worldwide when this American icon sings of the wonder of his surroundings of soaring mountains and gentle country vistas."
