Rosanne Cash - King's Record Shop

The Bottom Line

This re-release is sure to re-introduce Rosanne Cash to a new fan base. She was a staple on the airwaves in the 80's when the country/pop sound was popular. Her voice and lyrics were perfect for that era, and she leaves just enough twang in her voice to appeal to the country fan as well as appealing to the pop fans with her upbeat sound. This is a great album and sure to be a great addition to any CD collection.

Guide Review - Rosanne Cash - King's Record Shop

Originally released in 1987, 'King's Record Shop' is one of my favorite albums by Rosanne Cash. It has a perfect mix of ballads and upbeat tunes, and some songs that are just plain fun. She also included a cover of one of her dad's hits, "Tennessee Flat Top Box." This is actually the first version of the song that I heard, and it is the song that turned me onto Rosanne Cash. I loved the song and the rhythm it had and had to hear more of her music.

Along with the 10 original tracks, there are three bonus tracks on this album as well. "707" is a song that is actually an outtake from the original recording session and they included it on this re-release. And then there are live versions of the songs "Runaway Train" recorded in Toronto in 1991 and "Green, Yellow and Red" recorded in Boulder, CO in 1993. Studio versions of these songs are a part of the 10 original tracks.

Rosanne has always stretched her artistic boundaries and never been afraid to try new things. "Runaway Train" and "The Way We Make A Broken Heart" are still heard on radio today. Yet you can't really classify Rosanne as a 'country' artist. She belongs to whatever genre she chooses to record and she has the vocal power to cover just about anything she chooses to and do it well. I think anyone who enjoys good music that is relaxing to listen to will love to have this as a part of their collection.
