Guide Review - Jeff Bates - Leave the Light On
Jeff Bates just has that voice. While he can be compared to the sound of the late Conway Twitty in some ways, his sound is his own. With this album, he has chosen some great songs that allow him to show off the range of his voice. Lyrically, the album is great from start to finish, there is no filler included in this one. He goes effortlessly from the silly remake of Rub it In to the sexy love ballad Long Slow Kisses.Another notable ballad is Leave the Light On. It is a song about how beautiful he thinks she is and he wants her to leave the light on while they make love so her beauty isnt hidden in the dark. I really liked the song One Second Chance, which was about a man who had messed up his life, done time in prison and as he looks for a job or weekends with his son he says he isnt asking for lots of jobs or all the weekends of every year, he just wants one: one second chance. It is a beautiful song. Mama Was A Lot Like Jesus is a poignant tribute to a mom who has sacrificed for and loved her children with no reservations. It brings tears to the eyes. Actually, all of the songs on this album deserve a mention, but there just isnt enough room to do it. It is an excellent CD and I think everyone will appreciate it. From the traditional music fans to the fans of the newer country sound, there is something for everyone to be found here.
