Guide Review - Patty Loveless - Bluegrass and White Snow
When it comes to Christmas albums, when the songs have a traditional sound I tend to enjoy them. After hearing bits and pieces of 'Bluegrass, White Snow' I knew this would be right at home in my collection. Patty's album ranks right up there with Martina McBride's 'White Christmas.'"Away in a Manger" is beautiful to begin with, but when Patty sings it you can't help but take notice. "Silent Night" is just as lovely to hear. Jon Randall sings with Patty on "Joy to the World." Their voices sound wonderful together, as is the case with Rebecca Lynn Howard singing on "Little Drummer Boy." "Carol of the Bells" is done nicely with bluegrass instruments.
Vince Gill's background vocals are instantly recognizable on "Silver Bells" and as the liner notes state, his wife Amy Grant is also on the track. Rhonda Vincent's version of "Christmas Time's A Comin'" made me a fan of the song but Patty's is equally enjoyable. Another fun song is "Santa Train," where a girl sings about getting back home to celebrate Christmas. "Christmas Day at My House" conveys what Christmas is all about - being with family and making memories. Title track, 'Bluegrass, White Snow,' has a few guests for background vocals - Dolly Parton and Ricky Skaggs. When times are tough, the girl in this song will be thinking about the good memories of home from now on.
