Guide Review - Shawn King - In My Own Backyard
While the name Shawn King might be new to many people, she is no newcomer to the music business. She is The daughter of a major record company executive as well as a top Hollywood studio singer. Her new CD entitled, In My Own Backyard, was released in mid September of 2005.When I sat down to listen to this CD for the first time, I wasn't sure what to expect. This CD is being marketed to the country music lovers, but I would say that it's more of a soft pop CD than it is country. But no matter what you call it, it is one of the most beautiful CD's I've listened to in a long time!
The most country sounding track on the CD is the title track, "In My Own Backyard." After that, they take on a soft pop feel. Track 2, "Find Me" is probably the most pop sounding of all the songs on the CD. Musically speaking, the songs on this CD are driven by piano, strings, soft guitar and drums. So, if it's mandolins, fiddles and peddle-steel guitars you are hoping to hear, this is not the CD for you. But, if you are familiar with the musical and vocal arrangements of performers like Jim Brickman, you will love this CD.
With the exception of a couple tracks, all the songs on this CD are ballads. Beautiful vocals wrapped around beautiful strings and piano. The most up tempo track is the last one where Shawn King duets with Steve Tyrell on a bluesy song entitled "Big, Bad Love."
So, if you want a CD that has beautiful instrumentation as well as soft warm vocals, this is definitely a CD you must hear!
