Guide Review - Jamey Johnson - The Dollar
Jamey Johnson is one of many talented newcomers to country music. Although technically he isnt new, as hes been in the business for years writing and doing demos while he worked on getting a record deal of his own. Patience pays off, and his first single, The Dollar, is rapidly climbing the charts. He is on the board as one of the co-writers for the wildly popular Trace Adkins song Honkytonk Badonkadonk, but he says his love is singing. He wants to be known for his singing. With that said, his name is on the credits as writer or co-writer for the majority of songs on this album. In some songs, like Ray Rays Juke Joint, you can hear the influence of Hank Jr., I heard a little of the Merle sound in Shes All Lady. And George Jones made an appearance for Keepin Up With the Jonesin. One of my favorite songs on the album was Flying Silver Eagle. It is a story of a love that didnt work, and now he tours around the country and a flying silver eagle that used to be a ring. Rebelicious is a rousing song about a lady that is definitely not into tea and crumpets. Saving Grace is a unique look at a father that drank too much. He says his father took the devil off his back by taking up his time. Overall, the album is a very strong debut showing. The music is strong, the lyrics are strong and the vocals arent bad. Im looking forward to seeing what he has to offer the music field in the next several years.
