Bottom Line:

This is a solid ten-track collection marking Jason Meadows' first major-distributed album release. If you like good country music or you were a fan of his back during season three of Nashville Star, then you'll enjoy 100% Cowboy. You won't be disappointed in this one.

Jason isn't the type of guy who apologizes for who he is, which is why the title track (and first single), "100% Cowboy," is the perfect way to kick off the album. He wants to make it clear that he's not just a "posing pretty boy" dressing like a cowboy just to get a few more fans - it's who he really is. He gives a shout out to the late Chris LeDoux at the end. Going right along with "100% Cowboy" is "Country As A Dirt Clod," which stemmed from one of Jason's Nashville Star interviews. This is the type of song any country-fried person can identify with and understand with mentions of flying "Old Glory," Granny's cobbler sitting on the windowsill, clothes hanging out to dry, and kids heading down to the pond to fish.

Two songs from Jason's independent album have been changed up to fit in on his national debut. The first one is "Big Shot," which was a big hit on "Nashville Star" during season three. Written by Stan Webb and Nick Pellegrino, it's about a simple man who is thankful for his wife because he feels she could have so much more, yet chose to live her life with him. "She knows I'm a simple man, by the itty bitty diamond on her hand" is what Jason sings along with "She never gives it a second thought." Hardcore country is the sound in "San Antone Alone," the second re-worked song. A man goes to San Antonio to ask a lady's father for permission to marry his daughter. At first the father refuses, but after the mother steers her husband in the right direction, he finally gets what he wanted.

The second single from 100% Cowboy is "18 Video Tapes." It is a real tear-jerker, too. A father knew he would die before his son would even be born, so he made eighteen different tapes for him to watch as he was growing up. They included all sorts of tips and words of wisdom a father gives a son - like how to hold a baseball bat, shaving for the first time, and how he shouldn't listen to his friends when it comes to the birds and bees. "Just skip to tape eighteen," he says. Vince Gill sings background vocals, adding even more depth to the lyrics.

In the energetic and upbeat "Farm Girl," the man proclaims his woman as being "hotter than Daisy Duke in her cut-off jeans." He loves everything about her from the ways she looks to her uncanny ability to act good as gold one minute and bad to the bone the next. "She won a blue ribbon, wrestling a bear. Hottest redneck woman at the county fair. There ain't nothing that I love any more in the whole wide world." "Here I Come" is full of fire and ends the album on a rockin' note. It chronicles the path that Jason had to take just to be where he is today. "I ain't scared to fight, I ain't ashamed to cry, and I ain't backing down from anyone. That's who I am, that's where I stand, here I come." he promises. What a stamp to put on the end of this ten song collection.
