Owen Temple - Two Thousand Miles

El Paisano Records
Bottom Line:

Two Thousand Miles is a very well-rounded album, which is no surprise considering the collection was produced by none other than Lloyd Maines. There's a perfect mix of slow songs, fast songs, and there's even a song about Pluto no longer being a planet. Give it a listen.

Before this album, I was only familiar with a few of Owen Temple's songs. Listening to Texas Country radio shows I was able to sing along to "Tennessee Highway," "You Never Can Tell," and "Wanna Wanna Bar" which is fine and dandy but doesn't really give a complete picture as to a full set of the artist's songs. Two Thousand Miles really showed me how great Owen Temple's music is and what I've been missing out on for quite some time.

Right before a man was to be married, he asked his friend what it is really like to commit your life to one other person for the rest of your life. The friend gives a truthful answer saying you'll have mostly good times but some bad times as well, but no matter what "You Want To Wear That Ring."

In "Red Wine And Tequila" the man comes to the realization that it's time to say goodbye to the woman who is smooth around the edges since he's rough around the edges. "We do alright apart but we're terrible combined", he says. I like how the lyrics were written. The comparisons drawn between the couple's relationship and fine wine / tequila is perfect.

"Two Thousand Miles" is about a couple who casts all doubts aside to follow the road they want to follow together. They don't care what others say as long as they have each other, because that's what really matters. Starting over, two thousand miles away, is a risk they are more than willing to take.

There are a lot of things worth giving up for the man in the next song, but he proclaims "I Just Can't Quit Loving You" and that he'll deal with the wonderful love he has right now. Being apart is something he never wants to experience, so he'll do whatever it takes to keep that love going strong.

Slow, with wonderfully written lyrics is how I would describe "You Don't Have To Be Lonely." Just when you think you are alone in the world, coming home to an empty house, you have to realize there might be someone out there feeling the same way. Take the time and the chance to go out and see who is waiting for you. In the second part of the song, a married woman tells her husband that maybe it's time to move on so they won't be lonely, because there is always someone else to meet.

You almost can't go wrong with a traveling-themed song like "On The Lonesome Road." Especially at the end of an album. No matter the topic, it's almost like you know it's the end of the line when it comes to new tracks. While traveling those miles "The highways roll from town to town", but at least he has a few songs to sing along the way. If any of the songs on Two Thousand Miles are an indication of what the man will perform then crowds will surely enjoy listening to what he has to say.
