Anne Murray's career is something most artists dream about. She has won awards, broke down barriers and graciously blessed the world with her voice for nearly forty years. Her albums always consisted of quality music that appealed to a variety of listeners. Anne's latest album is a collection of hits that have been recorded as unbelievable duets. Although this album may not be full of new material, you have never heard these songs recorded like this.
The first song on Anne Murray's new album Duets: Friends & Legends is one of her most recognizable tunes. With the help of Martina McBride, "Danny's Song" brings on a special new sound. It was written by Kenny Loggins as a gift to his brother who was celebrating the birth of his first child. Hearing these two classic voices is amazing. It's a perfect start to such an awesome album.
The second has a guest that no one would have dreamed to hear on this record. With the help of modern day technology, they were able to take the original recording of the late Dusty Springfield and blend recordings of Anne Murray to create a duet with "I Just Fall In Love Again." This song was first recorded by Dusty, but never made a huge impact because her label was sold. That same year, Anne's version hit the charts and remained at the top for three weeks. This is a perfect love song. It is from the woman's perspective, and every time she looks at her husband, she falls in love all over again.
Nelly Furtado joined Anne on "Daydream Believer," and Jann Arden helped out on "Somebody's Always Saying Goodbye." It was great to hear something new from Jann Arden, so finding out she was doing this duet with Anne Murray was an added bonus.
Anne teamed up with Olivia Newton-John on "Cotton Jenny." This is a classic song that was written by Gordon Lightfoot. Telling a story of a young couple in love, they may not have much, but they do have love.
"You Needed Me" was another huge hit for Anne in 1978, but with the help of Shania Twain, this song takes on a whole new sound. Their voices sounded great and will bring back memories to anyone who loved the original version. Although it may have taken on an extra voice, it still has that classic touch.
Anne added a close family member to "Nobody Loves Me Like You Do." It was originally recorded as a duet with Dave Loggins, but she decided to have her daughter, Dawn Langstroth, sing by her side this time around. It's a great song that would be appropriate for any close relationship.
Anne also added "Could I Have This Dance" for this great album of duets. She invited Amy Grant to record this classic song. The end result couldn't have been better. The world fell in love with it simply because of its heartfelt meaning of two people in love, never wanting their special dance to end.
If you're looking to buy an album that's great from start to finish, Anne Murray's Duets: Friends & Legends is it.
