Down to the Nitty Gritty

Has George Strait ever made a bad CD? If he did, I haven't heard it. He knows what works, and he uses it. His songs are sometimes funny, sometimes playful, sometimes heartbreaking and sad, but they always have that "Strait" feel to them, and that is why his albums consistently remain at the top of the charts.

This album is no exception. It's filled with ten excellent selections. Here is what I thought of each song individually:

• "Meanwhile" - Talk about the Strait-feel... this one even sounds like vintage George. While it didn't hit the top of Billboard's charts, it was a No. 1 in my book.
• "Write This Down" - Really like this song. He admits that he didn't see it coming, but she should write herself a note to remind herself he loves her. I wasn't alone in really liking the song. This song topped the country charts for four straight weeks.
• "That's The Truth" - I love the meter of this song. I think this would make a great single. It's got hit written all over it. Classic country feel.
• "What Do You Say To That" - Pretty little love song.
• "Peace Of Mind" - Love this one too! I think this would be a good line dancing song.
• "That's Where I Wanna Take Our Love" - This one reminds me of "I Cross My Heart." Beautiful ballad.
• "Always Never The Same" - Great two-steppin' song. Reminds me of "Roundabout Way."
• "One Of You" - This is another one that I think would make a great single. Really catchy.
• "I Look At You" - Great love song.
• "4 Minus 3 Equals 0" - Tearjerker!
