This CD is an amazing trip down memory lane. Actually, all the CD's in this series offer more than one nostalgic moment. "Legends of the Opry" includes stars like Patsy Cline, Waylon Jennings and Loretta Lynn just to name a few. Anyone who misses the days when country music was really country music will love this collection of CD's from The Cracker Barrel. It's become a real favorite for me.
Taking a Nostalgic Trip Back in Time
The Cracker Barrel restaurants have food as close to home country cooking as you can get without going home to get it. Along with an incredible menu from the fluffiest pancakes you'll find anywhere served up with genuine Vermont Maple Syrup to Chicken Fried Steak, greens and a side of homemade dumplings they also offer an old time country store attached to the restaurants. All the antiques decorating their restaurants and stores are genuine articles carefully chosen to best compliment that location. You can find bottles of old fashioned sodas and candy that you would have found in the small country stores of yesteryear. There are gidgets and gadgets, collectibles, books and just about anything else you can think of to keep you interested while you wait for your table. Or you can browse around while you walk off a satisfying meal and do a little shopping. It stands to reason that an establishment this dedicated to the country way of living would also embrace the music. They have started releasing different albums that are exclusive to the Cracker Barrel. They are now offering their customers a chance to go back in time and purchase CD's that are digitally remastered select performances of the Grand Ole Opry live from the Ryman Auditorium. They have a series of five albums that are themed performances from the Opry stage. And I'll be reviewing all five of these great albums over the next few weeks.
Join Legends of the Opry Live Onstage at the Ryman
"Legends of the Opry" is just what the title implies. You will have a front row seat as twelve musical legends take you on a nostalgic journey back in time. These are live performances and you hear a giggling Patsy Cline as she steps up to the microphone to sing her hit, "Imagine That."
Marty Robbins had an incredible voice and "Devil Woman"
is still one of my all-time favorite songs. Tammy Wynette introduces George Jones as the young man she votes for as the number one singer in her life before he sings "The Grand Tour."
Loretta Lynn takes the stage to sing "One's On The Way"
and Jimmy Dickens shows his humor when he sings "May the Bird of Paradise Fly Up Your Nose."
And a member of one of the founding families of the Opry stage, Mother Maybelle and the Carters sing their theme song, "Keep On The Sunny Side."
The only negative thing I can find to say about this album is that there aren't more songs to listen to. And the only place you can find these CD's is through Cracker Barrel Restaurants. You can pick one up from the Country Store after you enjoy some incredible country cooking or you can order them online from crackerbarrel.com
. However you choose to do it, you won't regret adding any or all of this series to your collection.
