Do You Believe Me Now Bottom Line:

Jimmy Wayne is back with a great new album. He has a solid song delivery and his music is based on the realities of the relationships of today. He sings about real life and he puts a positive spin on it. This CD is a terrific kick off with his new record label. I'm looking forward to many more projects from Jimmy Wayne.

Who is Jimmy Wayne?

Jimmy Wayne is someone who has lived the stories he sings about. His life experiences lend that extra emotion to the music that pushes it from just music you hear to music that touches your heart. He grew up in the foster care system and dropped out of school before he was able to turn his life around with a positive spin. All it took was someone believing in him and encouraging him to be everything he wanted to be.

Jimmy finished school, went on to earn an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice and became a person who gave back to society while leaving positive footprints along his path. He decided to pursue his dream of having a music career and moved to Nashville where he put his life experiences to music.

His love of writing and long time habit of keeping a journal paid off and Tracy Byrd cut one of Wayne's songs in 1998. He was on his way.

Wayne was signed to Dreamworks Records by Scott Borchetta. His first project with them gave him four hits, but then record company politics stepped in and the label shut its doors.

Wayne recently joined new label, The Valory Music Co., which is a sister company to Big Machine Records. Once again it was Borchetta who grabbed Wayne for his label. Based on the first release with the label, it looks like it will be a very successful partnership. And through it all, Wayne continues to give back by performing charity concerts and drawing attention to the plight of poor, disadvantaged and abused kids.

'Do You Believe Me Now' - The Songs:

While putting together material for the new album, Wayne wanted to choose songs that drew on his experience as well as what he felt fans wanted to see when they came to a show. The album carries more of an up tempo theme and five of the ten new tracks were co-written by Wayne. There are also two bonus tracks included, "Stay Gone" and "I Love You This Much."

The album is produced by Mark Bright, Joe West and Dave Pahanish and has already spawned a hit single that hit the Top 5 with the title track, "Do You Believe Me Now." It is a song of lost love and longing to once again be what they used to be.

Patty Loveless and John Oates, of the legendary duo Hall & Oates, both lend their talents on two of the tracks. Loveless joins Wayne for "No Good For Me," which laments that no matter how well they may get along in one aspect of their relationship they are not good for each other. Their relationship is addicting and they need to find a way to admit they shouldn't be together and go their separate ways.

Oates joins Wayne on "Where You Are Going." It is probably the most powerful story on the album. Co-written by Wayne, it talks about a college trip to a teen detention center. When the guard giving the tour comments about the 'trash' they'll see behind those walls it opens the door to the admonishment that it is where you are going that counts, not where you've been. At the end of the song, this well dressed college student on the road to success points to the last door on the end and says, that room used to be mine. It is a very, very powerful message.

"Kerosene Kid" is another song that spoke volumes to me. Kerosene is often used by people with lower incomes to heat their homes because it is cheap. It has a very strong smell and will permeate everything it touches including hair and clothes. Often kids who come from these homes are teased at school and looked down on. The song encourages them to stand proud and understand that everything they have is a gift and it is their choice on whether to use the gifts they are given to succeed in life or ignore them and get lost in the system.

"Brighter Days" encourages you to stay positive and roll with the flow because things always work themselves out.

"I Didn't Come Here To Lose" is a song about staying on course and giving life everything you have because even though it may take longer than you think it should you will be rewarded with success if you continue to try.

This is just an excellent album all the way through. The lyrics and the music work together to make it an album that is just as appropriate during a party as it is while relaxing around the house or on a road trip. It is definitely one I'll be listening to often and I think any fan of contemporary country music will enjoy it.
