Every Night Bottom Line

Every Night is Brandon Rhyder's latest album. It is on the Thirty Tigers label and was produced by the wonderfully multi-talented singer/songwriter Radney Foster. If you are a fan of artists with intelligent and complex lyrics (not just music full of "fluff and filler") then you might want to give this album a fair listen.

About Brandon Rhyder

Brandon Rhyder and his wife welcomed a brand new baby girl to their family only a few months ago, and now it's time for his "musical baby" to make its way into the world. This artist has been a mainstay in the Texas Country circuit for quite a while now and if you listen closely to his music you'll understand why that is the case.

Making the decision to pursue music instead of finding a steady job (in Brandon's case - as an engineer) was, no doubt, a tough thing to do but he gave it a shot. After a few records were under his belt and he was touring at an exhausting pace, he thought about giving up. Thankfully he changed his mind and decided to keep going. Teaming up with Radney Foster as producer has proven to be an ideal way of creating this album. Radney easily understands how to work with complex compositions.

The Songs:

"Have I Waited Too Long" is a story about wanting to change, as told from a man's perspective. He asks the woman if she would come back to him if he promised to do things the right way. Realizing he did things that were wrong is the first step and he hopes she'll give him another shot at building a stronger relationship.

"Let's Go Down That Road" would be what happens after the reconciliation. The couple spent enough time with their ups and downs in the relationship and now it is time to be together. Letting everything bad stay in the past and focusing on the future is what is important now. "A little faith will pull us through, 'cause I'm still in love with you," the man says.

From start to finish, the way "She Couldn't Lie Anymore" is laid out and delivered, I'm reminded of the type of song you would hear playing in an intense television show or movie scene. The woman was had enough of hiding her feelings from him, pretending to be in love when she wasn't, so she left him a note taped to the bathroom door explaining why she was gone. Meanwhile the man is left to figure out what went wrong. The aftermath is best explained in "It's What I Do." Another song with the ability to capture a situation's intensity is "Again," with its haunting background music and honest lyrics.

The most country-sounding song on the album is "Old Red Door," with its nod to "livin' like it's always Friday night" and hanging out, shootin' the breeze with good friends while enjoying the evening's entertainment. The ending describes the results of the night including sides aching from laughing at the bad jokes, a friend or two face down on the floor, and the sun peeking in the windows as the night draws to a close.

The stubborn guy in "This Ain't It" is giving everything he has to win her love again and just when he thinks there's nothing more within him, he reaches deeper to find more strength and renewal of willpower. And when he succeeds, they can both live "Happily Ever After," the title of the following track. The perfect storybook ending to a relationship may not be easily attained, but if both parties are willing to work together then it's worth the effort. Sarah Buxton sings background vocals on this song.

"Cowboy's Work" rounds out the album with a simple-sounding story song profiling the life of a cowboy. It's a nice way of ending the collection on a calming note. If you listen long enough, there's also a bonus thirteenth track entitled "Pea Pie," which is just as soothing as "Cowboy's Work," only with a different theme.
