This is the companion soundtrack for Tim McGraw's motion picture "Flicka." There's a mix of music here, from pop to country. The artists that country fans will recognize are Tim McGraw, The Dancehall Doctors (Tim's band), The Warren Brothers, and Holly Williams.
The motion picture "Flicka" is Tim's first starring role. I haven't seen the movie as of writing this review, but I do hope to go and see it. The soundtrack is released on Tim's own label StyleSonic, and distributed by Curb Records.
Of the tracks featuring artists that I'm not familiar with, I really enjoyed Watertown's "The Things We Don't" as it has a definite country feel to it.
Tim was asked to write a song for the album, and that song is "My Little Girl," which is currently sitting at No. 10 on Billboard's Hot Country Single Charts. This was the first song that Tim has written and actually recorded. It's very touching, and you can feel the love he feels for his daughters in it.
Another song that Tim helped write was "Where Did I Go Right," which is performed by The Warren Brothers. Holly Williams sings an almost dirge-like song, "Rodeo Road." It talks about setting her pony free, so I'm sure it ties in with the story line somehow. I'm at a disadvantage not having seen the movie yet. Perhaps once I've seen it, I'll re-edit this review with any new thoughts I have about the music.
The Dancehall Doctors sing a lively version of the George Strait classic "The Fireman." You can almost see them up on a stage in the smokey bar as they sing. The album ends with the traditional song "All The Pretty Little Ponies," by Catherine Raney, and is probably my favorite non-country song on the album.
