Hear Something Country Christmas 2007 is a fourteen track collection featuring such artists as Carrie Underwood, Alan Jackson, Brooks & Dunn, Sara Evans, Kellie Pickler, and Kenny Chesney. The special thing about this album is the fact there are also seven previously unreleased Christmas songs never before heard.
Christmas Tunes from the Ladies
Carrie Underwood uses her beautiful voice to sing "Do You Hear What I Hear?" She starts out tenderly but builds more power as the song progresses. I must not forget to mention the lovely bits of mandolin in the middle of the song. When it comes to singing "Santa Baby," I don't think there's anyone more perfect for it than Kellie Pickler. The jazzy sounding song is well-suited for her voice and she does a fantastic job. Also tackling a Christmas favorite with a bit of a jazzy sound, is Sara Evans with "I'll Be Home For Christmas."
"O Little Town Of Bethlehem" is sung by Terri Clark and has a beautiful bluegrass backdrop with a prominent dobro featured in different sections of the music.
Martina McBride's Christmas album will always be a favorite of mine, so for her version of "O Come All Ye Faithful" to be included in this release makes it that much better.
Though I wish there could have been more females featured, they more than made up for things with their interpretations of the classics. You can't get much better than these ladies.
The Guys Ring in with Some Holiday Cheer
I love the down-home country twang sound Brad Paisley pulls off with "Winter Wonderland." He really turns the song into his own, even talking not about Parson Brown, but Jim Ed Brown by singing: "In the meadow we can build a snowman and pretend that he's Jim Ed Brown. We'll sing "Pop A Top" with Mr. Snowman with chapel bells ringing all over town."What better way to follow Brad, than with an original song penned by Alan Jackson - "Let It Be Christmas." It fits in flawlessly with the traditional songs found on this album.
"Jingle Bells," by Kenny Chesney, was given a reggae / island sound that is appropriate, considering how at home he feels down in places like the Bahamas. He even adds a second verse saying as much.
"Away In A Manger" is one of my favorite Christmas songs and I like how Blaine Larsen begins and ends the song with a Bible verse.
Injecting a little humor into the collection is Montgomery Gentry's cover of the Robert Earl Keen song, "Merry Christmas From The Family."
Previously unreleased is the Phil Vassar song, "Let's Make A Little Christmas Tonight," which he wrote along with his wife.
The Man In Black (Johnny Cash) has the last song on the album, and it's his version of "Silent Night."
