Bottom Line:

A 16 song collection of 'just a tad modernized' traditional sounding country. Daniel Lee's love of life, the great outdoors and the passion for his music shines through brilliantly on his sophomore release. I think you'll really enjoy this collection of potential hits.

Having had the distinct pleasure of interviewing Daniel shortly before this CD was due to be released, I was very curious as to how the music would live up to the incredibly warm and gentle man I had talked with a month earlier. After reading his bio, I was a little nervous about the interview. On paper, he's focused, determined, and seems to never settle for second. I had been prepared to meet a man that was just "business as usual" but to my amazement, I found him to be anything but. Now make no mistake, he is a total professional but I highly doubt this 10 year former marketing genius ever had any kind of corporate stuffiness to him at all. As I listened to the cuts, it was remarkable to me how each song reflected some part of the Daniel I had interviewed that day.

The first single off this 16 track CD, "Stark Ravin Crazy In Love" shows the romantic side to Daniel. It's a very upbeat tune that tells the experience of seeing a different person in the mirror when your falling in love. Ya gotta love a song that rhymes the word copasetic! Fresh and new, it's a cute little love song. Slowing things down a little in the love song category we hear, "You Know Me," and "That's Where I'll Be."

Being heavily influenced by the legendary John Denver, that influence is apparent throughout listening to the entire CD. It's not that Daniel sounds like Denver, it's his style that I compare it to. And that style becomes very apparent when you listen to the tender and effortless delivery of his vocals. Daniel pays homage to Denver with a remake of the timeless Denver hit, "Take Me Home, Country Roads." A sorrowful, homesick fiddle prelude introduces us to the remake. Definitely one of my favorites. And speaking of Denver, "That's What God Made Rivers For," a song that Denver, knowing how much he loved the outdoors, could have penned himself. In this hectic world, when you just need to get away and find a place to figure out what's most important, this song could be your answer.

Although for the most part Daniel is a pretty laid back guy he shows us he can really rock out when the situation calls for it covering the Georgia Satellites, "Keep Your Hands To Yourself." Bronson Arroyo, World Series Champion and pitcher for the Cincinnati Reds lends his voice to the remake.

This sophomore release coincides with Backstage & Backroads with Daniel Lee Martin, a new TV show premiering April 1, 2007 on The Sportsman Channel. Be sure to tune in and catch Daniel on the back roads, fishing, hunting, hanging out with his buddies and playing some of these fun loving songs live.
