Attention all music lovers, there is a new girl in town and everyone needs to check her out. Amanda Shaw may be trying to break into the big time, but once you hear her sing and play the fiddle it will become apparent that this young lady is right where she belongs. Amanda Shaw's new album is Pretty Runs Out, and it's a treat for everyone. Her voice is refreshing and she is bound to be huge.
Amanda may be an accomplished singer and musician, but she is also one heck of a song writer. From the minute you hit play you hear her roots come through the music. With a strong sound of "Cajun" and Louisiana jazz mixed with modern country, it is no wonder Amanda has become a fan favorite in her home state of Louisiana. She had a hand in writing a good portion of the songs on this record.
From start to finish, Amanda seems to be very comfortable in the studio. Although her voice is awesome, there are a couple tunes that are not as great as others. "Brick Wall" and "Woulda Coulda Shoulda" are more fillers than anything, but don't let this keep you from buying the album. The other songs more than make up for it.
"Pretty Runs Out" is a great song. She is singing about the inner beauty people have to offer. Also, explaining that it doesn't matter how beautiful you are on the outside, because it will run out eventually.
This would not be a true country album unless there was at least one tune about struggling love, and "I Don't Want To Be Your Friend" is that song. Some people get caught up in relationships, and when it is over, they decide they still want to try to be friends. Well, that is not the case with this tune. She has no problem telling her other half that they are over and being friends is out of the question.
"McGee's Melody" is another instrumental that is awesome. For someone who is not usually into instrumental songs, I am hooked. It makes you want to invite all your friends over and just have fun.
Just imagine any of the movies that take place in Louisiana on the bayou. While watching these movies, do you become intrigued by the culture and music? Well, if you do, this album will take you there.
"Reels: The Gaspe Reel/ Sam's Slammer/ Imogen's Ridge" are traditional instrumental songs played in Louisiana, so it was only natural that they would be on this album.
Overall this is a solid album. If you love good Louisiana style music, this is the album for you.
