Songs For Somebody is Bobby Pinson's second album and was also produced by him. There are a total of eleven songs including the touching, "If I Don't Make It Back," and the upbeat "Right To Be Wrong." When Bobby Pinson sings about something - you believe him. There's just something about him that lets listeners know he's experienced life and he isn't afraid to sing about it.
In the next song, the man knows how much better his life is since he gave up the booze and cigs but he says "Don't Think I Don't Think About It." The ghost of his past still "rattles his chains" every now and then but he's determined not to go down that road again. He doesn't want to take the easy way out anymore.
Fighting for the "Right To Be Wrong," is the subject of the album's fourth track. You better not get in this man's face and expect to tell him where to go or who he is. "My shoes walk through trouble, got mud on my sole. You can bet I'd pay double on the going price of the things I know." He isn't afraid to go his own way, even if that means taking the road less traveled.
Another upbeat song is "Past Comin' Back." It's about taking a leap of faith with the one you love and driving until you run out of road. "Don't think twice, baby, what have we got to lose but time?" Their hometown might not give them a chance of making it, but all that matters is how they feel about each other.
Bobby includes a version of "If I Don't Make It Back," which was also recorded by Tracy Lawrence. Every time I listen to this song I get a tear in my eye. A soldier's friend promises to enjoy a cold beer for him, race his car down Red Rock Road, and to take care of Amy if he dies while serving overseas. At the end of the song we find out the soldier died, but when the friend tries to introduce Amy to someone new she said that she's just not ready yet.
Bobby Pinson has one of the most unique voices in country music. He'll never have to worry about being mistaken for any other artist out there, that's for sure. I wasn't too familiar with his music before hearing this album, but I'm glad I gave him a chance. The songs are excellent and they all seemingly have a deeper meaning than your ordinary "fluff" filler pieces found on some albums.
