Bottom Line:Time Life has managed to put together an amazing gospel album where all the songs are performed by country artists. Some of today's hottest stars and yesterday's favorites are all on this album singing top contempory Christian songs of faith. These tunes were already well known in the gospel world, but now have been re-done with pure country soul. With fifteen different artists on sixteen songs there is no way to go wrong with Songs 4 Worship: Country.
Country music has had a religous edge since the very beginning. Many of country's top artists, past and present, have recorded gospel songs if not entire gospel albums. The artists have always been very outspoken on their religious views. If you were to ever go to church in Nashville on a Sunday morning you may even see some of country music's finest sitting right next to you. There has always been a close connection between country artists and the fans mostly because of the faith they share. Whether you are down on your luck or on top of a mountain there is a song on this collection for you. Out of all the compilations stores have to offer, it is hard to figure out which one is the best for you, and then when you do choose you only like two or three songs. Time Life has made it easy by adding all of these top songs into one. Some of the artists are brand new and others are great country legends, but old or new they are singing great songs. Contemporary artists like Emerson Drive, Diamond Rio, Linda Davis, Collin Raye, and Bryan White all the way to legends like Charlie Daniels, The Oak Ridge Boys and Ricky Skaggs have lent their voices to bring to life these hymns. It is great to see these artists step out of their comfort zone and try something new. The songs on this album are not traditional southern gospel songs which is what a lot of country stars seem to lean toward.
Being a huge fan of Diamond Rio, I was excited to see they recorded a song for such a great collection. "Open The Eyes Of My Heart" is a great song and has been recorded on different collections, but now Diamond Rio has perfected and truly made it their own. Country supertars Emerson Drive also added their voices on "I Can Only Imagine," and Rebecca Lynn Howard perfected another great tune "God Is In The House." Ricky Skaggs has such a huge following and wide range of talent it is hard to even put him in a category. He has proven to the world his diverse talents and through his longevity the world has had the honor to hear it. Although Ricky has recorded many gospel tunes before, now he has updated his catelog with "We All Bow Down." "Awesome God" is a perfect song for Charlie Daniels. With his legendary voice, he brings this song to life and really proves how diverse he can be. Rascal Flatts added their voices to this unique collection on "He Ain't The Leaving Kind." This talented trio have had numerous hits in their career an show no sign of slowing down with this tune. There are a few stars that have not been heard of in a while, yet still lend their voices on some of these tunes. Byran White and Collin Raye each recorded a song each which brought them back into the spotlight. This whole collection is well worth money if you like modern gospel songs, but if you like more traditional southern gospel you may not care for it.
