If you're a fan of Willie Nelson, and loved the album Stardust when it was released in 1978, well you're in for a treat. It's being released again, but this time as a special two disc set. It has all of the songs that fans originally fell in love with, but now it also contains a second disc called More From The Great American Songbook. This is a perfect album for any occasion.
Most of the world has no clue just how many rules Willie Nelson has broken in his career. As a leader in the "Outlaw" movement, Willie never fit the mold that mainstream country radio expected fans to follow. He marched to the beat of his own drum and he continues to march, still to this day.
In the history of American Music, there have been songs that date back to the beginning, that most people know, they just don't know where it came from. Well, Willie loved these songs so much, he decided to record these classic on one album.
Willie does it *his* way
Just use your imagination for a moment. No one likes change, and when someone in one genre wants to record something from a completely separate genre, heads are going to roll. That's exactly what happened when Willie Nelson decided to record Stardust. The executives went through the roof and some of his fans feared he was going "pop." This perhaps, was the first time in history that everyone ended up putting one hundred percent of their faith in one man, and it paid off with a multi-platinum outcome.
The contributions that Willie has made over the years to country music are endless, but by recording this album, he was able to narrow the gap between country and pop. No one in history, other than Ray Charles, attempted to take this risky, groundbreaking swing, and came out a winner. When getting ready to listen to this record, clear your mind, and prepare yourself for something incredible.
The second tune that the world fell in love with was "Georgia On My Mind." Hearing this tune will give you cold chills. His voice is classic, as he bends the notes throughout the song. The harmonica adds a haunting affect that could never be replaced by anything else. If you only bought this album for this track, you would have your money's worth. I have always found myself putting in the original version, and just leaving it on repeat.
Sometimes there is a song you just can't get enough of and this is it. Do you remember the classic song "Blue Skies?" Well, it's on here too. Willie Nelson is able to make any original song and make it his. He proves it over and over again throughout this record, but one song that shines bright is his version of "Unchained Melody."
Other songs that can be found on the first disc is "On The Sunny Side Of The Street" and "Moonlight In Vermont."
The second disc offers sixteen more classic "pop" tunes, such as "What A Wonderful World," "I'm Gonna Sit Right Down And Write Myself A Letter," and "Mona Lisa." There is no way anyone could possibly get tired of this album. With such an awesome style, it's obvious why he is one of America's most treasured performers.
