Trisha Yearwood - Greatest Hits

MCA Nashville
Bottom Line:

Trisha Yearwood hit the music scene in the early 90's and has remained one of my favorite female artists ever since. This Greatest Hits album spans her entire career to date, and includes two new cuts. If you are a fan, then this is a great way to get some favorites on one disc. If you are just starting to discover her music, then you can't go wrong starting here.

Greatest Hits albums are difficult to review simply because they are comprised of material that has been released on other albums. It doesn't mean they are bad; it is just difficult to come up with fresh things to say about them that people haven't already heard or read from previous reviews of the original albums. This particular album has become a fast favorite for me.

I've always been a fan of Trisha Yearwood, and I love having most of my favorite songs from over the years on one disc. Yearwood was a fresh face on the country music scene in the early 90's. She came with a clean cut image and a voice that could grab your attention and keep it. Over the years, not a lot changed. While some female artists came and went or changed their musical style to fit the trend of the moment, Yearwood remained a steady force in the industry. She produced ten albums for MCA Nashville. Of those, four were certified Gold, six became platinum, one became double platinum and one became an incredible Quadruple Platinum powerhouse. She won CMA Female Vocalist of the Year in '97 and '98, has been awarded three Grammys and received many other awards and tributes over the course of her career. Consistency is a big part of staying on top in any career you choose, and Yearwood has more than proven herself in being able to deliver top quality entertainment.

This release has 17 tracks of pure musical talent. Yearwood recorded two new tracks especially for this project. Fans who have kept up with their music collections are still going to love the great song choices they have conveniently located on one disc, and anyone just starting to compile their collections will find this to be a great anchor for their collection.

The songs are ordered chronologically through the years, starting off with one of her biggest hits, "She's In Love With the Boy." This was a huge song for her and most definitely one of her signature pieces. I don't think anyone is ever good enough for daddy's little girl, & this is a timeless classic that will always hold true to the lyrics.

She nails the ballads and you will find several included here. "Like We Never Had A Broken Heart," "The Song Remembers When" and "I Would Have Loved You Anyway" are all perfect for her smooth and poignant vocals. "XXX's and OOO's (An American Girl)" is a favorite of mine, and is a lighthearted, yet half serious look at the tendency of corporate America to expect the sons to follow in their dad's footsteps instead of the daughters. The last two tracks, "Just A Cup of Coffee" and "Nothin' To Lose," are new music just for this project. "Just A Cup of Coffee" is a ballad justifying seeing an old love. There's nothing really going on, no feelings left, just having a cup of coffee. "Nothin' to Lose" is more of an up-tempo beat and a little bluesy. She's on a bus going through Georgia and she just doesn't care about much of anything. She's lost him and nothing else matters.
