Greatest Hits 3 Bottom Line:

No more than two plus years since the release of Tim McGraw's Greatest Hits Vol. 2 CD, Curb Records has released Greatest Hits Vol. 3. It's a collection of hits that range from the recent "Last Dollar (Fly Away)" to the hit "Can't Be Really Gone." A great CD for fans who like all their hits on one disc.

Controversy Strikes

Well by now everyone has either heard or read about the controversy between Tim McGraw and his label Curb Records over the release of his third greatest hits package. Tim has made it very clear that he had nothing to do with the production of this project. And putting label politics aside, it's really not a bad collection as far as greatest hits packages go. The CD has 12 tracks, and if you want to get technical, only 10 of the 12 were actual hit singles. The most unusual song is a bonus track with Tim featuring the hard rock band Def Leppard. The song is called "Nine Lives." And while this track is a great rocker, it's about as far removed from country music as AC/DC.

At least Curb Records had the decency to make it the last track on the disc. I'm thinking that the more recent hit "Kristofferson" would have been a better choice?

Another interesting track worth mentioning is a live version of "Real Good Man." The original version of this song appears on the 2002 CD entitled Tim McGraw and the Dancehall Doctors. Also included is the song "Find Out Who Your Friends Are." This is the duet version of the song with Tracy Lawrence only, not the version which played on country radio which also included Kenny Chesney. The rest of the songs on Greatest Hits 3 runs the gambit from the mid 1990's to the present.

Greatest Hits 2 - The Songs:

The oldest single in the collection is "Can't Be Really Gone." This song takes us back to the 1995 release called All I Want.

The CD starts off with the song "Back When," which is from the 2004 album Live Like You Were Dying. It also includes a live version of the very popular song "If You're Reading This." Originally only released to radio, it later was added to the CD Let It Go.

Other hits in the album are "Angry All The Time," "Unbroken," "Last Dollar (Fly Away(" and "Let It Go." It also includes the song "Suspicions" which was originally a 1979 hit for Eddie Rabbitt. And it also includes his 2005 hit single "Do You Want Fries With That."

Overall Greatest Hits 3 is a pretty good retrospective of his hits over the past 13 years, and makes a nice addition to Greatest Hits 1 and Greatest Hits 2.

In comparison, this is the shortest of the three collections. Greatest Hits 1 had 15 tracks and Greatest Hits 2 has 16 tracks, but several of the ones on the second collection were unknown at the time of its release.

A couple glaring omissions from this greatest hits package are the songs "One Of These Days" from the 1997 CD Everywhere and the song "All I Want Is A Life" from the 1995 release called All I Want. So maybe we can hope for a 2 disc anthology of Tim's hits in the future?

Well for now, Greatest Hits 3 is a cozy addition to any Tim McGraw fan's library.
