Bottom Line:

This is a great compilation CD for the classic country fan. They have chosen 16 of country music's most memorable songs and put them in one, easy to listen to place. Each featured artist is a legend, and it doesn't get any better than that.

The title of the CD, Ultimate Grammy Collection: Classic Country, is fairly self explanatory as to the content. The Grammy Award is an elite recognition to the best of the best in the music business. Each song on this album is the winner of at least one Grammy, and some won multiple awards, from 1965 through 1982. Each artist is a legend in their field and each song will be easily recognized as a treasured favorite. Most of them are still heard on the radio today.

What are the ingredients that make up a Grammy song? According to recording & producing legend Quincy Jones, "A Grammy song is one that has done the impossible: it has burned its way into your DNA. Grammy songs are our shared history. They are the songs that remind us of the places and people that matter. They mark time." With that recipe in mind, each and every song included was a masterpiece creation for the musical soul.

In addition to the great music you receive with the purchase of this album, you also will help some great causes. A portion of the purchase proceeds will benefit the MusiCares Foundation and the Grammy Foundation. Both charities were established by the Recording Academy. MusiCares reaches out with a safety net of assistance for music people in times of need that can be financial, medical or personal emergencies. The Grammy Foundation has the purpose of promoting and preserving the rich cultural heritage through educational programs and activities for young people.

It was no surprise to find that Roger Miller's "King of the Road" took home six Grammy's in 1965. Miller was a musical genius and had a knack for recording songs that were not only fun to listen to, but they carried a serious message as well. That song took Best Country and Western Vocal Performance - Male, Best Country and Western Single, Best Country and Western Song, Best Country and Western Album (The Return of Roger Miller), Best Contemporary (R&R) Vocal Performance - Male and Best Contemporary (R&R) Single.

Although that was a tough act to follow for the rest of the album, there were some great choices that were included. Tammy Wynette's "Stand By Your Man" is an anthem to many women, and in 1969 it took home the Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance - Female.

Who can forget the ever chipper and happy Donna Fargo and her theme song, "Happiest Girl in the Whole USA?" In 1972, it took home the Grammy for Best Country Vocal Performance - Female.

Crystal Gayle's classic, "Don't It Make My Brown Eyes Blue," took the Best Country Vocal Performance - Female and Best Country Song in 1977.

Dolly Parton stepped up to the plate with her hit "9 to 5" in 1981. Not only was it a smash song and a smash movie, it took Best Country Vocal Performance - Female and Best Country Song that year. There are many great songs on this album and it is more than worth adding it to your collection.
