Just in time for the holidays, Martina has re-released her White Christmas CD which includes four new tracks. She duets with the legendary Dean Martin on "Baby It's Cold Outside" where her vocals are overdubbed with his original vocal track. With 16 songs in all, they took a good Christmas CD and made it great!
The first new song that stands out is the duet with legendary performer Dean Martin as he appears posthumously with Martina on the song "Baby It's Cold Outside." Thanks to the magic of modern recording technology, Martina's vocals have been mixed with the vocals and music of the original recording by Dean Martin. The song is originally from the soundtrack to the MGM movie, Neptune's Daughter.
Martina does a lively, playful version of the song "Jingle Bells" that will have you tapping your toes in time with the music. She also includes a moving rendition of the song "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing." The musical arrangement of this song will remind you of Christmas' of long ago with its cello and harp music, as well as a small choir lending their voices to the background vocals.
The nice thing about all the songs on this CD is that the vocal and musical arrangements are straight forward and familiar. You will have no problem singing along with every song on this CD. Martina is backed by piano, strings, wind instruments, bass and percussion. The music on White Christmas has a nice traditional sound that will remind you of Christmas' from years gone by.
The CD starts off with the wintertime favorite "Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow." This song is best appreciated sitting by a picture window with a big mug of hot chocolate watching the snow falling outside while a fire is crackling in the fireplace. OK, so I'm a romantic. Other Christmas standards on this CD are, "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," "What Child Is This," "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire)," "Silent Night," "White Christmas," "O Come All Ye Faithful" and several more.
This is a very well done Christmas CD that you'll want to listen to all through the holiday Christmas season. Sometimes Martina is serious and spiritual, and other times she's lighthearted and playful. But she is consistently enjoyable throughout the entire CD. A must have for baking cookies or wrapping presents, or maybe just relaxing and listening. . The spirit of the holiday season is alive and well within the songs of Martina McBride's re-release of White Christmas.
