Jon Christopher Davis - Jon Christopher Davis

Palo Duro
Bottom Line:

This is Jon Christopher Davis' first album released from Palo Duro Records. It was produced by Jon Christopher and features thirteen tracks. Some of the song's co-writers include Radney Foster, Rodney Crowell, and Stan Lynch. This album shows Jon Christopher Davis' ability to tackle fun songs ("Lone Star Attitude") as well as more emotional ones ("Two Story Town") and that's what I love about this collection.

In "You Gotta Love Someone," Jon urges a woman to "jump on board the runaway train" of love and choose him to be her man. "There's nothing like the feeling of sweet release - just go ahead and do it baby, set yourself free." Jon Christopher Davis co-wrote this song with Radney Foster. "She Don't Know She's Lonely" was co-written by Jon Christopher Davis and Rodney Crowell. It is about a man's perspective of what a former flame should be feeling. She might not really be hurting, but in his mind she definitely is because that is what he is experiencing. Picking up the beat is "Love Had Something Else In Mind." Just when you think things aren't going to get any better and you're down in the dumps, all it takes is a little bit of love to pick up your spirits. "You ran a good thing into the ground, when you started selling sight over sound," he sings in "The Bottom Line." Another great line is "Johnny Cash come and take our hand and lead this back door into the Promised Land." Let's change priorities and focus more on the music is the song's message.
I figured once I listened to "Lone Star Attitude" I'd love it - and I do. During the daytime the man in the song might "Walk the line" but when it comes time to party he knows how drink some Jim Beam and get rowdy. One night he might get into a fight or get a new tattoo but that's just how it goes. Whatever he feels like doing, he'll do. "Let's get one thing straight, make no mistake, I got a Lonestar attitude," he sings. In the next song, asking "what's new" is what people do "Round Here." Things move slowly and things are simple in that little town, but the residents wouldn't have it any other way. The second song co-written by Radney is "Two Story Town." With the piano in the background, the large focus is on the song's strong lyrics. A pregnant woman is standing in front of a mirror looking at her changing body and the man tells her "Baby Looks Good On You" in the next song. It's a sweet and unique perspective. The last song is a hidden track: "If I Could Only Fly." How appropriate for it to be placed last because it is a song that stands out and will stick with you.
