Guide Review - Allison Moorer - Alabama Song
Life has a funny way of turning tough spots and tragedies in ones life into something good. For Allison Moorer that tough spot was witnessing the death of her parents. But instead of that tragedy causing Allison to go insane, she instead turned to music (as did older sister Shelby Lynne). Alabama Song arrived in 1998 to much critical acclaim. The first single, A Soft Place To Fall was one of the featured tracks from the Robert Redford film The Horse Whisperer. The song would go on to be nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song.As good as A Soft Place To Fall is as a song, theres a lot more to Alabama Song than the one song. One of those songs is the title track which, using her smoky and sultry voice, Allison describes her home state of Alabama. Tell Me Baby is the lone song not written by Allison and she performs it here as a tribute to its writer Walter Hyatt, who died in a plane crash. Other standout tracks on the CD include the traditional country of Long Black Train (not to be confused with Josh Turners song of the same name) and Set You Free. Easier To Forget is another great track.
While this album went commercially unnoticed, it is by and large one of Allison Moorers best that shes recorded so far. So, if youre looking for a wonderful album from a wonderful female country artist then check out Allison Moorers Alabama Song.
