Guide Review - Allison Moorer The Definitive Collection
Much like her sister Shelby Lynne, Allison Moorer, secured a Nashville recording contract only to release critically acclaimed albums that received hardly any notice from contemporary country radio, even her first single "A Soft Place To Fall" and biggest hit to date, "Think It Over" failed to reach the Top 50. Still, Allison was undaunted and released four albums before leaving the Universal Music Group (she recorded 2 for MCA Nashville before moving, with Tony Brown and Bering Strait, to Universal South for another studio album along with a live one. Now recording for Sugar Hill Records, "The Definitive Collection" is a retrospective collection covering the first eight years of Allison's career.Highlights of the album include "A Soft Place To Fall" Allison's Academy Award nominated track from "The Horse Whisperer," "Alabama Song;" the title track of her debut album, "The Hardest Part;" the title track from album number two, "Send Down An Angel," "Tumbling Down" and "Dying Breed" from "Miss Fortune" and " a cover of Neil Young's "Don't Cry No Tears" which features Shelby Lynne.
As an added bonus, there are three tracks from compilations that Allison contributed to. "Moonshiner" was from the "Songcatcher" film soundtrack, "I Ain't The One" which is done with Los Straitjackets and Lonesome Bob and was featured on a Los Straitjackets album. "Storms Never Last" is from the "Lonesome On'ry And Mean" Waylon Jennings tribute.
