Drew Womack - Drew Womack

The Bottom Line

Drew Womack is a gifted artist. Free of the “limitations” that accompany major label record deals, Drew sounds refreshed and well suited for “Texas Music.” He does this while not totally abandoning the foundation set during his years in Sons Of The Desert.

Guide Review - Drew Womack - Drew Womack

After some initial success in 1997, Drew Womack and his band Sons Of The Desert experienced tough times in Nashville. While they recorded two albums after the initial album “Whatever Comes First,” only the second one, “Change” got released. In between the two albums Drew and the Sons were featured vocalists on Ty Herndon’s hit single “It Must Be Love” and the song for which they’ve received awards for: Lee Ann Womakck’s “I Hope You Dance.” Drew also wrote Kenny Chesney’s hit “She’s Got It All.”

Rather than dwell on why Sons of the Desert failed to spark much interest on national radio, Drew Womack headed back home to Texas and immediately forged ahead with a new identity which has resulted in an absolute whopper of an album simply called “Drew Womack.” The first track off of the record, “Hey Daisy” is also the first single. Already a hit in Texas, the song has started to gain interest nationally. “Premium Gasoline” is an uptempo track that is unlike anything that was found on a Sons of the Desert record. Fastest Way To Texas” is a great story song while “Fine Art Of Failure” is a humorous song about a guy who’s only good luck was no luck at all. “Melancholy Cafe” is a piano ballad about a place that never turns people with “lost dreams” away.

Drew Womack is such a talented vocalist that it’s often easy to forget his songwriting ability. Moving back to Texas has really helped Drew with his creative process and he sounds refreshed and renewed on “Drew Womack.”
