Guide Review - Darryl Worley - 'Darryl Worley'

I have always liked Darryl Worley. There’s just something about his voice that hits home with me. I own all of his albums and was eagerly awaiting the release of this eponymous CD. After a “greatest hits” of sorts with the last CD “Have You Forgotten?” Darryl is back to his usual self with this all new 12 song collection.

The first track on the CD is the fun hit single “Awful Beautiful Life.” It tells a story of a guy who loves everything about life, the good and the bad. “I Love Her, She Hates Me” is a great tear-in-your-beer song about a group of buddies at a bar just having a good time, except for the guy there to drink his worries away, “I love her, she hates me and I drink” he says. “If Something Should Happen” is a touching ballad about a guy facing cancer while “Work And Worry” is a playful slice of delta soul/jazz. “Find Me” is an intense song about longing for a romantic connection. “Wake Up America” is a great song about a small-town that is downtrodden with drugs and addicts, a predicament that many small towns face now. “Whistle Dixie” is an intimate ballad about a guy, despite his stuggles and faults, is content with his life should it all end sooner or later.

“Darryl Worley” is by far the most complete record Darryl Worley has ever recorded. For that reason alone it’s his best. It features pure, strong country music that still is “contemporary” enough to get on the radio.
