Guide Review - The Mavericks - Live in Austin
Since their 1994 CD release 'What A Crying Shame,' I have been a loyal fan of the Mavericks. So it was only natural that I would get excited about the prospect of a live album. After a long tenure with MCA/Mercury Nashville, the band switched to Sanctuary Records for their self titled release last year. The show starts out with the classic styled Dance The Night Away and Because Of You. Here Comes The Rain was one of the Mavs biggest hits and in live form it sounds as good today as it did 10 years ago. I loved I Want To Know when I first heard it last year. In the live form Raul Malos Roy Orbison inspired voice really shines. What A Crying Shame is another hit for the band and comes off really well live. Save A Prayer and Sibony are new songs from the band and are nice additions to their catalog. All You Ever Do Is Bring Me Down is the perfect encore song and is performed here as such.
Fans of the Mavericks like the band for their blend of a multitude of genres. I concur. The Mavericks simply are one of the best bands to emerge from 1990s Nashville. They have always done their own thing and I thing theyre the better for it. Live In Austin Texas is a nice document of what a show featuring the Mavericks would be like to attend: fun.
