Guide Review - Various Artists - Patriotic Country 2
This album has some excellent patriotic music, and also creates awareness for the Armed Services YMCA. This is a charity supporting the families of junior enlisted military personnel. There are so many great songs on this album, that it is really hard to only single out a few to describe the album. I think what makes me enjoy the Patriotic Country CD's so much is the fact that they mix classic with current. On one CD you can hear some classic Merle Haggard along with the newer sound of Phil Vassar. Elvis can be heard alongside Buddy Jewell. Each artist has a great song that describes the love of their country and to have them all in one spot is a genuine treat.Chely Wright had a single recently that just reached out and grabbed you. "The Bumper of My SUV" is a perfect song for an album about the love of our country. "Okie From Muskogee" is a classic song from Merle Haggard that shares how he feels about his country. "Ragged Old Flag" by Johnny Cash has always been a favorite of mine. It talks about how the flag may look ragged to the unknowing eye, but for what it has been through it is in beautiful shape and waves with pride on the pole. Aaron Tippin's contribution to the project, "You've Got to Stand for Something" is a moving song about taking a stand for what you believe in. Other artists are Tracy Lawrence, Darryl Worley, Oak Ridge Boys, Alabama and many others. A very fitting close to the album is a live version of "America the Beautiful" by Elvis Presley.
