Guide Review - Gene Watson - Then And Now
Just 4 years ago I was introduced to Gene Watson and the lovely voice that he possesses. With his rich, texture-filled tenor, Watson makes even the laziest of listeners stop and pay attention to his lovely traditional country songs. After some time off, Watson has released his 3rd great album in a row."If I'm A Fool For Leavin'" and "Only Yesterday" lead off the record and the two songs immediately proclaim what "Then And Now" is all about. It's an album that features 9 of Gene's favorite "album cuts" from his hit albums in the 1970s and 1980s along with four new versions of classic hits. The four hits are the wonderful "Back In The Fire," "Sometimes I Get Lucky," "You Could Know As Much" and "The Jukebox Played Along."
Other favorites on this CD include the mournful "I Didn't Think Of You At All," "I Didn't Catch Myself" and "Everybody Needs A Hero." Gene Watson is a vocal treasure who knows his way around a good song. Packed with lovely renditions of past "buried treasures," "Then And Now" is a wonderful package of great songs that deserved to be "unearthed" from albums of yesteryear. In an era when country music seemingly has a broad range of songs, "Then And Now" is the type of album that bridges the past and present together. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of this amazing album.
