The Bottom Line
Released in 1993, 'True Believer' was Ronnie's only release on Liberty Records after ending his long time association with RCA. Sadly, lack of label promotion robbed fans of hearing some really great Milsap music on the airwaves. With promotion, there could have been at least one more number one for Ronnie, if not more. There are no filler songs, each one can stand on it's own. Out of my extensive Ronnie Milsap collection, this album is in my top five favorites. .

Guide Review - Ronnie Milsap - True Believer
This album has some terrific songs. Lack of promotion on the part of the label turned this incredibly strong album into a great injustice to the listening public. Lyrically, it is phenomenal, and the music tracks draw you in and hold your attention all the way through. "Desire" has a fun beat and is about the total obsession that comes with a new love. "I'm Playing For You" is about playing his music every night for his lost love in hopes that she will hear it and know it is only for her. "Better Off With The Blues" has the blues sound and she's gone, but he thinks he's better off with the blues after all the hell she put him through. "True Believer" is memories about young love, the fun of dating and buying the wedding bands. "These Foolish Things" is an old favorite in the standards catalog. Ronnie does a superb job with it. "Civil War" compares the breaking apart of a marriage to the battlegrounds of war. "Please Jesus" has a definite southern gospel flavor in the music arrangements.I would highly recommend this as a must have for any Ronnie Milsap album collection.
