Various Artists - Texas Unplugged

The Bottom Line

If you are a fan of Texas country music, or acoustic music in general, 'Texas Unplugged Volume 1' would make a wonderful addition to your collection. You can't go wrong with such a fine sampling of the music this fine state has to offer.

Guide Review - Various Artists - Texas Unplugged

TC Taylor starts off the album with his cover of Rusty Wier's "Don't It Make You Want To Dance" & instantly makes the listener feel as though they are sitting on a porch listening to down-home country music. Mike McClure (formerly of The Great Divide) sings "My Sweet Lily." His strong vocals against the acoustic background music make for a great sounding tune.

Becca Dalrymple wowed me with the upbeat "No Man's Land." Even in one song you can tell that she really knows how to work the lyrics. "It's heart over mind, though my mind is over mine. I'll work it all out in time" she sings. Ed Burleson is one of my favorite Texas artists so it is only natural that I think his "The Way You've Been Treating Me" is one of the best songs on 'Unplugged.'

Sisters Morales sing "Even The Rain," using beautiful harmonies, while Terri Hendrix adds a touch of humor to the collection with "Clicker." Eleven Hundred Springs adds some male humor with "Kick Me When I'm Down." The guy says he won't curse the woman's name if she decides to take a stab at crushing his heart. "Texas Women," by Tommy Alverson is about wanting to get away but also promising to come back once the man finds out what he wants to do with his life.

If the twelve tracks that make up volume one of the series sound this good, then I cannot wait until others are released. There's no harm in having musical variety, especially when it's fine Texas/Oklahoma artists singing along with nothing but their acoustic instruments.
