Guide Review - Van Zant - Get Right With The Man
While many in country music may not know Van Zant as their current duo incarnation, but they certainly should know the two southern rock bands that Johnny and Donnie Van Zant front. Johnny Van Zant replaced their other brother Ronnie in Lynyrd Skynyrd after a tragic plane crash while Donnie was one of the front men for 38 Special. Together the brothers recorded two independent albums before "going country" for their major label debut "Get Right With The Man.And what a cool debut it is. Leading off the 11 track record is the Bobby Pinson penned "Takin' Up Space." It's a rockin' ode to those who live their life to the fullest by always goin' for it all no matter the odds. "Help Somebody" is the first single and it's doing remarkably well at country radio. Written by hit songwriter Jeffrey Steele (most of Montgomery Gentry's hits), "Help Somebody" is the kind of song that is meat and potatoes American music. It just sounds good.
"Things I Miss The Most" is a change of pace for Van Zant because it's a ballad of sorts that they're not really known for. It's a great song about living the life of a musician. Written with the Warren Brothers, "I Know My History" is a rockin' track that sounds radio and concert ready. "I Can't Help Myself" is a steel guitar filled ballad about a guy who needs help to overcome his problems in life.
If you like your country to be rockin' then you should check out Van Zant's "Get Right With The Man."
