Willie Nelson - Songs

The Bottom Line

It's hard to find a more impressive and expansive catalog than that of Willie Nelson. The country music icon has been recording music, mostly songs he's written, for four decades, and this collection is an awesome slice of that amazing work, including more recent work, including duets with Lee Ann Womack and B.B. King. Willie's distinctive sound and classy melodies are all timeless.

Guide Review - Willie Nelson - Songs

Willie Nelson never fails to satisfy any music lover. His music spans the range from his rawboned pure country to his crossover successes with stars of every genre, and he appeals to everyone simply by being himself. This 20-song collection takes little pieces from every direction, matching up Willie's early demo work with his phenomenal top-twenty hits such as "Blue Eyes Crying In the Rain" and "Good Hearted Woman," and does what many classic artist "greatest hits" collections fail to do includes much of his recent work.

With powerful songs such "Always On My Mind" and signature pieces "Whiskey River" and "On The Road Again," there's nothing on this disc that isn't great to listen to. From Waylon & Willie classics to his solo work to tremendous duets such as "Pancho and Lefty" (with Merle Haggard) and "Mendocino County Line" (with Lee Ann Womack), the disc packs a wallop.

There's no doubt at all that Willie Nelson is a country music legend. But more than that, he remains a vibrant, contemporary artist who constantly pushes the boundaries of his music and reaches out across genre lines to embrace anyone and everyone who just likes plain old good tunes and a plain old good time. Willie's the king.
