Guide Review - Various Artists - Christmas Angels
'Christmas Angels' is an album featuring artists from various types of musical backgrounds coming together to sing their favorite (or self-penned) Christmas songs. The different artists means, of course, different styles of Christmas songs. It's not a cookie-cutter album.Amber Dotson starts off the album with her traditional-sounding cover of "Blue Christmas" (complete with steel guitar), while Jamie O'Neal powerfully sings the beautiful song, "O Holy Night." "I'll Be Home For Christmas" has Jennifer Hanson singing vocals. The mix on it is a bit different than the usual. When you think Alison Krauss, you think traditional bluegrass type songs but that's not found on "Shimmy Down The Chimney." The original song is about a woman who only wants a man for Christmas.
I've always loved Cyndi Thomson's voice, so her singing "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas" is a real treat for me. I hope someday she decides to come back to country music and record another album. Bethany Dillon reminds me a little bit of Norah Jones as she sings "God Rest Ye Merry Gentleman." Suzy Bogguss sings her original song, "Two-Step 'Round The Christmas Tree," and it guarantees a dance-worthy Christmas tune. Deana Carter's song, "Boogie Woogie Santa," is also an original. Tanya Tucker closes the album with her version of the wonderful tune, "Winter Wonderland."
