Guide Review - 'The Essential Dolly Parton' - Dolly Parton
This is a two CD collection with 37 of Dolly's hits from the 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's. She has a unique voice and the bubbly personality that have become as much of her trademark as her physique and what she calls the "White Trash" look of big hair and lots of makeup. There is only one Dolly and she is a dynamo" with her music and songwriting talents, racking up hit after hit.The collection starts off with "Dumb Blonde," in which she warns you not to be fooled by what you see on the outside. The first disc has a lot of her older songs like "Joshua," "Coat of Many Colors," "Love is Like a Butterfly" and "Mule Skinner Blues." There are 18 tracks on the first disc. The second disc has 19 tracks that includes some of her many crossover hits. "Here You Go Again" and "Two Doors Down" both crossed over to the pop charts in a time when it was not common, or accepted, for country stars to do so. Songs from movie soundtracks include "9 to 5" and "Tennessee Homesick Blues" from the movie Rhinestone. There is a sampling of some duets as well. "Please Don't Stop Loving Me" with Porter Wagner, "Islands in the Stream" with Kenny Rogers and "The Rockin' Years" with Ricky Van Shelton.
This is a great collection of music and an asset to any music library. Long time fans will love having favorite songs in one location, especially those that are out of print and hard to find. New fans will love the career spanning sampling of songs.
