Guide Review - Roy Orbison - The Essential Roy Orbison
When it comes to "best of" collections these days, the buzz word is "essential!" It seems that everyone has an essential collection. Well, you can add the name Roy orbison to that list with the release of his 2-CD set called The Essential Roy Orbison. Now wait just a minute! This isn't your parent's Roy Orbison Greatest Hits CD. No sir/ma'am! We're talking about 2 discs that are filled rim to rim with 40 tracks of the best of Roy Orbison!Disc 1 is filled with 21 tracks of pure classic Roy. It begins with two songs Produced in 1956 by the legendary Sam Phillips on Sun Records. They are "Ooby Dooby" and the B-side "Go! Go! Go!" Other more recognizable hits from Disc 1 are, "Only The Lonely," "Crying," "Dream Baby," "It's Over" and of course "Oh, Pretty Woman." And every song on Disc 1 is the original recording just as you remember them.
Disc 2 contains about half of the songs from Roy's 1989 Virgin CD, Mystery Girl. They are, "You Got It," "She's A Mystery To Me," "California Blue," "The Only One" and "A Love So Beautiful." Other standouts on this disc include the 1980 duet he does with Emmylou Harris called "That Lovin' You Feeling Again." The two re-recorded songs on Disc 2 are "Running Scared" (1985) and "In Dreams" (1987). There are also two tracks from his 1992 King Of Hearts CD. These are "Drove All Night" and "Wild Hearts Run Out Of Time."
Roy Orbison, April 23, 1936 - December 6, 1988.
