Guide Review - Darrell Scott - The Invisible Man

I must ashamedly admit that prior to my reviewing this CD, I was unfamiliar with the work of Darrell Scott. However, I found his sixth CD entitled 'The Invisible Man' to be very entertaining and enjoyable. The best way to describe the music of Darrell Scott is alternative country. So, if you are thinking country like Lonestar or Rascal Flatts, no, this isn't that style of country. Think more along the lines of people like Lyle Lovett or John Prine. He, along with Gary Paczosa and Alison Krauss assisted with the mixing of this CD.

A quote direct from Darrell Scott's website says "We’re not making music to be music later; it’s going to be music right now." And what great music it is! Most of the recording of the 'Invisible Man' was done in Darrell Scott's home recording studio. Several of the musicians on this CD are people that he had worked with in the past. musicians like Danny Thompson (bass), legendary drummer Kenny Malone, guitarist Richard Bennett and keyboardist Gabe Dixon just to name a select few.

The CD opens up with the song "Hank Williams' Ghost" which interestingly enough has little if nothing to do with Hank Williams ghost at all. With lyrics like "in the early morning hours, just before you're wide awake. Before you summon all your powers to cover up your big mistake." This CD is hard to put into a category because the songs are so different in their styles. But, if you are a fan of the music of people like John Prine, you will enjoy this CD.
