Guide Review - Various Artists - Let's Step Outside
Honeybrowne's previously unreleased version of the John Denver classic "Take Me Home, Country Roads" is how listeners are greeted before Kevin Fowler's sing-along anthem "Beer, Bait & Ammo" takes over. Jack Ingram's contribution is "The Fisherman" & Pat Green's "West Texas Holiday," a song about getting in the truck & hitting the road, are back-to-back. One of my favorite Texas Country songs is on here - "John Boat Blues" by Jason Allen. When you hear the song, you can really start feeling like you're out on a boat fishing with your buddies.
"They Call it the Hill Country," by the Randy Rogers Band, is another favorite of mine. "They call it the Hill Country, I call it beautiful. I'd call it progress if it could be saved" is part of the chorus. James McMurtry sings "Slew Foot" with Joe Ely. Cory Morrow contributes "Dance by the Rio Grande." I like the Tejano-flavored tune about a Senorita who led the man to the dance floor. "Let's dance in the Mexican sand. Let's dance tonight by the moonlit shadows." Reckless Kelly close the album with their song, "Snowfall." I didn't recall hearing this song before & I love the lyrics in it.
